Product Description

This spreadsheet is used to calculate earth pressure, water pressure, and construction surcharge acting on a tank wall or basement wall, and to determine the resulting bending moments for structural design.

The calculation is divided into three main sections:

A. Soil Parameters
This section defines the input geotechnical parameters, including wall height, soil cohesion, internal friction angle, unit weight of soil, unit weight of water, and construction or existing structure surcharge. These parameters are used as the basis for earth and water pressure calculations.

B. Calculation of Coefficients
This section calculates the active earth pressure coefficient based on soil properties. It also determines the water pressure, earth pressure, and surcharge-induced pressure acting on the tank wall or retaining wall at the base and along the wall height.

C. Tank Wall / Tunnel Wall Design Calculation
This section calculates bending moments caused by water pressure, active earth pressure, and construction surcharge. The total design moment acting on the tank wall is obtained by combining these effects. Based on the design moment, the required wall thickness and reinforcement parameters are defined using specified concrete and steel strength grades.

This file serves as a preliminary design and verification tool for tank walls or basement walls under combined soil, water, and construction loads.
